Definition of bipolar disorder - meaning of manic depression

Bipolar disorder is a kind of mood swing disorder which is identified by the symptoms of alternating episodes depression as well as mania in the patient which is suffering from bipolar disorder.

When a person suffers from the condition of bipolar disorder, the person faces ongoing periods of mania and depression coming one after the other.

When the person is in the period of mania, the patient might experience substantially higher levels of self esteem with substantially increased levels of physical activity and reduced need for sleep.

When the patient is in period of depression, exactly opposite of the period of mania takes place and the person suffers from extreme low levels of self esteem and confidence with substantially lower levels of physical activity and the gloomy feeling of sadness encompassing the mind of the patient.
